Map of terraces of the Canary Islands

Delimitation of terraces of the Canary Islands carried out by the research team “Mapping Territories of Banking in the Canary Islands” of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the occasion of the IV ITLA World Congress (Internatiocal Alliance for Terraced Landscapes). The terraces are human constructions made to face strong orographic and environmental limitations (topographic, soil, climatic...) and guarantee the opportunity to obtain land that can be worked and cultivated. In the Canary Islands, terraces are identity elements of the rural landscape and are closely linked to society. In addition to a cultivation modality they represent a whole culture of resource use (stone, water, soils and seeds). The map of terraces of the Canary Islands was made during the third quarter of 2018 by the Architect Doctors and professors of the ULPGC members of the work team (Arjona Montesdeoca, Juan Carmelo; González García, Pedro Augusto; Manzano Cabrera, Jorge Luis; Martín del Toro, Eduardo) taking as a reference the information available in the Territorial Information System of the Canary Islands.
