Dataset description

Update of the mapping of areas vulnerable to nitrate pollution pursuant to Order 7 July 2009 (joint order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of the Environment), amending Decree 36/2008 of 5 February 2008 designating vulnerable zones and establishing measures against pollution by nitrates of agricultural origin. Two new zones are added: zone 23 (Condado), zone 24 (Porcuna) and zone 2 is extended with polygon 98 of the Municipality of Carmona, Province of Seville (GISPAC reference 2008). These vulnerable zones are defined in the decree as those areas whose runoffs or leaks with contributions of nitrates of organic origin can affect inland waters, both surface and ground. For its designation, the reports of the various Andalusian hydrological bodies on water bodies with risks of this type of pollution have been taken into account. From the technical point of view, the delimitation has been carried out using the Geographic Information System for the Identification of Agricultural Plots (SIGPAC, version 2008), based on polygons (recincts for agricultural use and intensive livestock holdings), much more precise than that of municipalities provided for in the 1998 decree. In 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and the Ministry of Environment and Land Management are reviewing this information for updating.
