Dataset description

Current WMS Desertification Service in Andalusia (Assessment and multi-temporal monitoring of desertification in Andalusia through a Geographic Information System within the DESERNET II Project) referenced to the years 1956, 1999, 2003, 2040, 2070 and 2100. In the face of desertification classified as a natural process, derived from the evaluation of historical series or processes from long time cycles, there are current processes that act both on the naturally desert areas, and on others that have recently suffered or are suffering degradation that may lead to the desertification of these territories. The combination of classified information related to climate, groundwater, land use adequacy and productive capacity, uses and biodiversity, and geomorphology determines areas currently desertified or close to desertification and where processes are currently active. These areas have a traditional agricultural production of a marginal nature, much of the cultivation areas have been abandoned, accentuating the degradation of them and only surviving highly technified and high added value crops capable of making profitable the investments and current expenses necessary for their production. To this first result, all those areas diagnosed with inherited desertification have been added, thus obtaining all the desertified areas at present, both as a result of natural or historical causes, as well as those resulting from recent processes. Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. Junta de Andalucía, 2008. Node of the Environmental Information Network of Andalusia. Junta de Andalucia. Integrated into the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Andalusia, following the guidelines of the Andalusian Cartographic System.
