Dataset description

WMS service corresponding to maritime traffic and CO2 emissions from maritime traffic in waters around Spain for 2011. Spain is located at one of the most important maritime crossroads in the world, with thousands of fishing, commercial, passenger or recreational vessels crossing our waters, with special intensity in the Strait of Gibraltar. It includes a linear layer representing the volume of maritime traffic in the environment of Spain expressed in number of ships per day and a raster layer with the intensity of CO2 emissions from the very intensity of maritime traffic in a sector that covers approximately Europe, Africa and the Atlantic Ocean. Through this map you can easily observe the intensity of maritime traffic on a line that departs from the Strait of Gibraltar and crosses the Mediterranean and Red Sea reaches India and the Gulf of Bengal, a line that stands out worldwide as one of the most trafficked, along with others on the American Pacific coast and trade routes between Japan and the Asian SE and Oceania. Areas designated as PSSAs (Specially Sensitive Marine Areas) designated by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) are located in these areas. The global inventory of emissions from maritime traffic was carried out at the College of Terrestrial and Marine Studies, University of Delaware (USA). It is estimated from the construction of a network of global flows of the main routes according to the length of the journeys, and the characteristics of the ships. Node of the Environmental Information Network of Andalusia. Junta de Andalucia. Integrated into the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Andalusia, following the guidelines of the Andalusian Cartographic System.
