Dataset description

Hydrographic demarcations defined in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The Hydrographic Demarcation is defined as the terrestrial and marine zone composed of one or more river basins and their coastal, transitional and underground waters. The current version of this data set (January 2022) is adapted, in the land area of the demarcations, to Order TEC/921/2018 of 30 August, which defines the lines indicating the main cartographic limits of the territorial areas of hydrographic confederations in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 650/1987 of 8 May, defining the territorial areas of river basin organisms and hydrological plans. Due to the improvement in the geometric definition of the municipal and coastal boundary lines made by the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia in 2021, this data set has been modified including these improvements in the coastline. Given that there is a section that, although being a coastline, had been defined as a limit of the territorial scope of the river basin districts of Ebro and Inner Basins of Catalonia by Order TEC/921/2018, in this small section the new improved coastline does not exactly conform to that limit. In any case, this stretch of coastline is included as a boundary between demarcations in this data set, waiting to resolve this slight discrepancy later, the result of an improvement in cartographic resolution. As regards the marine environment, the azimuths of the coastal boundary lines between river basin districts follow the provisions of Royal Decree 125/2007 of 2 February 2007 establishing the territorial scope of river basin districts.
