Node of the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). Junta de Andalucia. WFS service of the Geographical Nomenclator of Andalusia created in 2009 and integrated in the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Andalusia
following the guidelines of the Statistical and Cartographic System of Andalusia. The Geographical Nomenclator of Andalusia (NGA) is a project of the IECA, started in 2004 with the Toponyms Database 1:10.000 (BTA10), which currently contains
some 140,500 place names and geographical identifiers classified thematically in administrative areas, population entities, hydrography, orography, heritage, infrastructure, industrial activities, extractives, services and equipment.
These toponyms have been georeferenced with a point geometry and their source of origin is the toponymy included in the Topographic Map of Andalusia 1:10.000 (Digital Vectorial v1:1998-2003), basic cartography of the Autonomous Community,
to which other sources are being incorporated to complete or normalise the toponymy of certain types of entity. The data model adopted follows the Spanish Nomenclator Model recommended by the IDEE Working Group.
The NGA is a dynamic registry in continuous updating made available to the CEAS and society through several synchronised public and free web services. Its purpose is to serve as a standardised reference of the toponymy of Andalusia.
