Dataset description

The Biosphere Reserves constitute a network integrated in the programme “Man and the Biosphere (MAB)” promoted by UNESCO, which includes places that have a unique value both at the ecological level and in the capacity to implement development models compatible with their conservation. The Canary Network of Biosphere Reserves consists of seven spaces: the islands of La Palma (1983), Lanzarote (1993), El Hierro (2000), Gran Canaria (46 % of the island) (2005) and Fuerteventura (2009). In July 2012, the International Coordination Council of the MAB Programme, meeting in Paris, also declared the island of La Gomera. Finally, in 2015, it is declared as a biosphere reserve, in Tenerife, the Massif of Anaga. Date of data: 1983-2015.
