Dataset description

WMS from Corine Land Cover. Land occupation map at 1:100,000 scale, useful for territorial analysis and management. The map is created within the CORINE Programme (Coordination of INformation of the Environment), a pilot project for the collection, coordination and homogenisation of information on the state of the environment and natural resources in the European Community. Within this programme, the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) project was created — since 1995 the responsibility of the European Environment Agency. As main features it has: • Minimum cartographable unit: 25 ha, in the case of changes in land use: 5 ha. • Hierarchical classification of 3 levels with 44 classes of land cover and uses. • UTM representation cartographic system. • Photointerpretation on reference image Landsat TM in 1990, Landsat7 in 2000 and SPOT4 images in 2006 • Reference Scale: 1:100.000. There are three versions of the Corine Land Cover, which are presented as layers of the WMS service: • Corine Land Cover 1990 (CLC90): European land use database for 1990. • Image & CORINE Land Cover 2000 (I & CLC2000): update of the 2000 CLC90, including the main changes in land occupation in Europe during 1990-2000 (Land Cover Changes) and a European Landsat7 image mosaic. • Corine Land Cover 2006 (CLC2006): update of the CLC2000 for 2006 and the generation of a database of changes that occurred during the years 2000-2006, within the European GMES programme. The Directorate-General of the National Geographical Institute, together with the National Geographical Information Centre, has coordinated the different versions/bases of the project in Spain, taking place in a decentralised manner in the different autonomous communities. The update of the CLC2006 is carried out in Spain with the reference image SPOT5, same reference image of the SIOSE project. In both the CLC90 and the CLC2000, the classification was extended to 5 levels of hierarchy, with more classes and therefore more detail in its definition.
