The Geotechnical Map of the Canary Islands consists of the zoning of the island territory, with the limitations that the scale and nature of the materials allow, in areas of more or less homogeneous geotechnical behavior (geotechnical units) that, for the purposes of geotechnical recognition planning, will have a similar treatment. These geotechnical units have in turn been classified within the terrain groups defined by the Basic Structural Safety Document (DB SE-C) of the Technical Building Code (CTE). For the elaboration of maps of geotechnical zoning of the Archipelago has been used as a basis the digital geological mapping of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) at 1:25,000, supplied by Cartográfica de Canarias, S.A. (GRAFCAN). In this sense, based on the cartographic traces of the different geological units of the IGME mapping, a set of geotechnical units were established integrating within them one or more units.
