Dataset description

Municipal, provincial and regional enclosures and the municipal, provincial and regional boundary lines registered in the Spanish Jurisdictional Limits Database (BDLJE). Geodetic reference system: ETRS89 for Peninsula and Balearic Islands and REGCAN95, compatible with WGS84, for the Canary Islands. This geometry of the boundary lines has, at best and with the exception of those boundary lines that have been replanted on the ground, the precision of the 1/25,000 scale, conditioned by the topographic methods and instruments used for obtaining and subsequent cartographic editing. Therefore, it cannot be used for the representation of jurisdictional boundaries in larger-scale cartography (smaller denominator). Some lines or sections of lines may be “provisional”, i.e. they lack legal value because the lack of agreement between the parties is stated in the corresponding minutes. In order to obtain a more precise geometry, it is necessary to rethink the boundary lines on the ground, which is generally feasible on the basis of the technical documentation (field topographical book) and legal (delinde act) with which each of them is registered in the Central Register of Cartography of the Directorate General of the National Geographical Institute. In addition, this more precise geometry has to be legally endorsed by the City Councils themselves by issuing joint minutes, in addition to those used for rethinking, in accordance with the administrative procedures established in the applicable legislation in each case.
