El registre conté informació detallada de totes les eliminacions de documentació de sèries sense valor històric ni informatiu dutes a terme per l’Arxiu Nacional de Catalunya en aplicació de les Taules d’Accés i Avaluació Documental (TAAD) aprovades per la Comissió Nacional d’Accés, Avaluació i Tria Documental (CNAATD) del Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat. El registre es va iniciar l’any 1994 per donar compliment a l’Ordre de 8 de febrer del Departament de Cultura que disposa que tots els arxius han de documentar l’eliminació de documents.
