Demographic statistical domains — DeSO WFS

Demographic statistical domains — DeSO is a nationwide classification created by the SCB, which became applicable in January 2018. DeSO divides Sweden into 5 984 areas which, at its inception, have between 700 and 2 700 inhabitants. The classification follows the boundaries of the counties and municipalities. DeSO does not have names or names but is described by a code with nine unique positions. The first four consist of the county and municipality code and identify the county and the municipality in which the area is located. The fifth position indicates which category the area belongs to A, B or C. A is areas that are mostly outside major population concentrations or conurbations. B are areas that are mostly located in population concentrations or conurbations but which are not central. Category C is the areas that are mostly located in the city centre of the municipality. The three subsequent positions consist of a serial number sorting the areas geographically. This sorting is based on the categories and starts in the south and continues northwards. The last position is a reserve site that will be used in case a DeSO will need to be split in the future. A DeSO can only be present in one location.
