Likely and Potential Continuity Forest

Mapping of continuity forests and forests that have the potential to meet the requirements to be continuity forests has been carried out to: —Create a knowledge base to identify and prioritise forest areas for inventories and formal protection. —Create a geographical basis that can be used in the work to describe green infrastructure and the connectivity of the forest landscape. Continuity forests were mapped in 2015 throughout the Boreal region and in four areas this mapping is specified. Mapping 2015 was carried out using automated methods. Clarification has been made as the mapping in 2015 overestimates the existence of continuity forests. Clarification was carried out through visual interpretation of older and current orthophotos in Västernorrland (2016), Jämtland (2017), Västerbotten (2018) and the mountain region (2019). The mapping in 2015 and subsequent clarifications are merged into a layer of “Probable and Potential Continuity Forest”.
