Dataset description

In the map layer the meadows and pastures inventory are only habitat types. In this layer, the inventoried soils are broken down so that, according to Natura 2000 definitions, each habitat type has its own surface area. Sweden’s meadows and pastures have been inventoried. This means that 300 000 hectares of land were examined between 2002 and 2004. This is to see where the land is located and what specific natural values and cultural heritage are there, such as special plants or old buildings. The inventory showed that there are 270 000 hectares of valuable land in Sweden. 7 000 hectares are meadows and 229 000 are pastures. The rest needs to be restored in order to preserve their quality. Further inventory is carried out under the Rural Development Programme (2007-2013). The inventory is used to carry out evaluations and follow-up of environmental payments and other measures for the natural and cultural environment. The data can be used as a basis for advice, spatial planning and research. The results of the inventory can be found in the Tuva database. It is also available on the Board of Agriculture’s website. From the inventory there are two map layers. One contains all the land visited in the inventory (meadows and pastures). The second layer (nature type areas) contains the land that has been fully invented. In this layer, the inventoried soils are broken down so that each habitat type has its own surface area, as defined in Natura 2000.
