Dataset description

Nature conservation agreements signed between property owners and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency or county administrative board as a contracting party for the state. Nature conservation agreements are a civil-law agreement. The owner of the property and the State or a municipality agree on certain financial compensation for the property owner in exchange for renouncing forestry, for example. Nature conservation agreements can be concluded both for areas that depend on management to conserve natural values and for areas where nature values are best benefited from free development. The duration of the contract may vary between 1 and 50 years. The Swedish Forest Agency and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency together guide how to proceed.
