Dataset description

Includes ‘Swedish printing before 1700’ and the works ‘Gesta Danorum’ by Saxo Grammaticus and ‘Descriptionis Ptolemaicæ avgmentvm siue Occidentis Notitia breui Commentario illustrata’. — ‘Swedish printing before 1700’ was a multi-purpose pilot project. The overall aim was to seek suitable methods for the description and digitisation of older material from the Royal Library’s collections. The material was made available via the Royal Library’s web in 2002. This dataset contains the image files for each work. — Digitised version of the first edition of Saxo Grammaticu’s Gesta Danorum (the “Acquisions of the Danes”) printed in Paris in 1514. This copy contains extensive margin notes in Latin by the brothers Olaus and Johannes Magnus, as well as Olaus Magnus’ handwritten eyewitness depiction of Stockholm’s bloodbath in 1520.
