Dataset description

On behalf of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the SLU has produced high-resolution (2x2m) maps showing where there is a risk of erosion on Swedish arable land (Djodjic, MARKENSTEN 2019 — https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s13280-018-1134-8.pdf). Erosion is the process that occurs when soil particles are suspended and transported away with water that flows into the ground. The Erosion risk maps have been financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. When using the maps, you need to have read the information on using the maps and be aware that: • The maps contain personal data available to perform a task in the public interest • The maps are not a facite, but show where there is an estimated risk of erosion occurring. • The maps alone cannot serve as a basis for assessing the risk of erosion in a site, but should be supplemented by additional information. How to use the maps There are two types of erosion risk maps to download: • map showing where soil particles can be released from the soil surface • map showing where the water flowing on the surface will flow. Information on where soil particles can be released can be used to identify areas for locating measures that make it more difficult for soil particles to be released. Information on how water flows into the surface can be used to identify areas where appropriate measures prevent water flow as quickly as possible and measures capable of collecting particles. In order to be able to interpret and use the maps correctly, you need to know the conditions under which we can publish the maps. The Erosion risk maps are published under the Creative commons 0 (CC0) licence for open data. Maps contain personal data but are not confidential Since the maps contain information on an area which, together with other data, can be linked to a person, we consider the maps to be personal data. The Board of Agriculture’s legal basis for the processing of personal data is to perform a task in the public interest. The information contained in the erosion risk maps is not covered by confidentiality under public disclosure and confidentiality legislation, as the maps do not contain information that would be detrimental to their disclosure. The maps are a substrate, not a facite. The maps show where there is an estimated risk of erosion. You should always complete the maps with additional information and the maps cannot replace a field visit. The maps show the risk of erosion based on the conditions available when the maps were produced in 2018. The erosion risk maps are the result of calculations made using the USPED data model. The calculations have been based on conditions corresponding to high spring water flows, which is not the case annually. There are also uncertainties in the input data used where, for example, road drums are not included as water flow routes. More detailed information on the erosion risk maps is available on the Board of Agriculture website and you can also download the maps there (https://jordbruksverket.se/jordbruket-miljon-och-klimatet/kartor-med-information-om-svensk-akermark#h-Riskomradenforerosion).
