Dataset description

The National Forest Taxation is a nationwide, annual sampling inventory of the country’s forests, which has been ongoing since 1923. The main objective is to provide relevant input to forest policy, but also to the forestry sector and forest research. Over the years, practices have changed and the content has been extended beyond purely forest. Thus, the inventory of the types of land that can be transferred to forest land has been expanded and its content has become more extensive. It can be said that the inventory has become more and more ecological and environmental information, a development which, moreover, is likely to continue. Statistics and data from the National Forest Taxation are used in a number of contexts. The main use, and at the same time the starting point for the tax assessment in the 1920s, is to serve as a basis for shaping the country’s forest policy. Significant users are the authorities responsible for designing and monitoring forest and environmental policy, in particular the National Board of Forestry and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. County bodies such as county administrative boards use statistics in county plans for forests and the environment. Other important uses include research into forests and the environment, as well as as speculative and working materials in teaching. The statistics are also used as a basis for planning and decision-making by companies and trade associations such as the LRF Forest Owners and Forestry Industries. The National Forest Taxation is carried out as a sample inventory. The method is described under the ‘history of development’. This is the series of data sets created by the National Forest Taxation. The data set is made up of the following statistical products: ‘Gran — timber stores m3sk per hectare’, ‘Tall — storel m3sk per hectare’, ‘Other leaves — timber stores m3sk per hectare’, ‘Total stock of timber m3sk per hectare’, ‘Red wood — timber store m3sk per hectare’, ‘Proportion of mooring forest’, ‘Andel Galling forest’, ‘Percentage of luxury forest’ & ‘percentage of agricultural forest’ & ‘crop year’. ‘Björk — timber store m3sk per hectare’, ‘mean growth m3sk per ha per year’
