Dataset description

The product shows morphologically prominent traces in the terrain of occurring landslides on land as well as gorges in loose soil layers. Together with soil maps and elevation data, the information can be used for an overall assessment of slide sensitivity and soil stability. Most landslides have occurred in clay soil, but there are also traces of screeds in sandy soils, not least in the northern river valleys, as well as in moraine soils. In cases where the screed has occurred in sandy soil, there are often silt or clay layers under a superficial layer of sand. Traces of soils have also been included to the extent that they have given rise to forms similar to landslides. The landslides have occurred sometime after the last ice age. In some cases, you can find information on when the breach occurred, see information on the website of the Swedish Geotechnical Institute: http://gis.swedgeo.se/skred/ Especially in the hinterland of Norrland there are many traces of landslides in moraine terrain. These landslides have apparently been triggered by severe earthquakes that took place at the end of the last Ice Age or shortly thereafter, i.e. about 10,000 years ago. Canyons arise from erosion of running water (surface water or groundwater outflow) in loose soil layers. In case of increased run-off due to intense rainfall or changes in land use, new ravines can be created and existing gorges can grow. In the slopes of the gorges, there are often less breeds and walks. Both morphologically very prominent screed edges and gorges, as well as forms equalised by, for example, land planning and agriculture, have been reported.
