Dataset description

DESCRIPTION The dataset contains forecast data from the NEMO-Nordic forecast model. The first file ends at + 000H00M and then follows forecast files for every hour up to + 060H00M. Nemo-Nordic is an oceanographic forecasting model that describes the state of the sea for a number of physical parameters. Every 6 hours a 60-hour forecast is run based on data assimilation of available observations. The inputs are the meteorological forecast model Arome and the ECMWF forecast model as well as river data from the hydrological model HYPE. Forecasts are made for, among other things, temperature, salinity, currents, water level and ice. The area covered by NEMO-Nordic is the entire Baltic Sea, the west coast of Sweden (Kattegat and Skagerrak), the North Sea and the English Channel. When using water level data, offset data shall be corrected because the model’s zero level is not the same as the water level for the area. The offset correction is based on observations. The correction shall be carried out continuously for each station, as they have different reference levels. One method of offset correction is to use a running average for a few days back in time. It is calculated every hour on the basis of the latest observations. DELIVERY In this service you can download files with real-time data via web service at delivery fee. The files shall be saved before further use. Send an e-mail to [email protected] for order. COORDINATES The coordinates of the area are given by the corners: south-west lazy: 48.5, lon: —4.1 north-west lazy: 65.9, lon: —4.1 northeast lazy: 65.9, lon: 30.2 south-east lazy: 48.5, lon: 30.2 The grid panes are 1 nautical mile (approx. 2*2 km). Please note that the area north of the North Sea (approximately 59.3 degrees) is not included in the grid. PARAMETERS DSLM — Water level DTKE — dissipation of turbulence(turbulent kinetic energy) icec — Ice concentration icetk — ice thickness s — Salt content t — Temperature TKE — turbulence U — current in east direction (3D field) ucur — current in east direction on the surface uice — ice movement in the east direction v — current in a northerly direction vcur — current in a northerly direction on the surface Vice — ice movement in a northerly direction wcur_ge — up current USE SMHI uses data from NEMO-Nordic for water level warnings, ice forecasting and investigations. Nemo-Nordic data is also used as input to other models, an example is the oil spill model SeatrackWeb. External users use NEMO-Nordic as input to their own oceanographic models via the international BOOS collaboration. The Armed Forces and a couple of municipalities also use NEMO-Nordic data. FORMAT Data is delivered in GRIB format. Information that facilitates use can be found at: https://www.smhi.se/data/oppna-data/grib-format-1.30761
