Soil depth model (view service)

The display service shows the data set Earth depth model and gives a very clear picture of the power of the soil cover. The soil depth has been calculated by interpolation of known soil depth data, obtained by, for example, drilling. To support interpolation between observation points, for example, surface earth information has been used. Soil depth is of great importance in a number of different areas. Some examples include planning of different types of construction, infrastructure and groundwater protection. Such planning includes, among other things, finding appropriate technical solutions and cost estimates depending on the depth of the soil. In many cases, large soil depths are avoided, for example in order to avoid high costs associated with drilling. In other cases, large soil depths are an advantage, for example because the soil layers have a large storage capacity for groundwater. Furthermore, soil depth data together with information on soil type are important in hydrological modelling.
