Fishing areas

Fishing areas are made up of the catchable stretches along the rivers and from numerous still waters (wheaters, ponds, lakes). Strictly speaking, all elements of the water system that are not directly fishable belong to the area, even if, for example, interrupted sections or for fishing too small streams are hardly relevant for the fish ends. This was taken into account when bonusing the territories. Also non-fishing water sections are included in the fishing areas. Both the rivers and various spatial data bases on the stillwaters are largely available for the canton of Zurich. Where possible, reference was therefore made to existing basic data. However, manual additions to the reference data for both rivers and still waters had to be made for the 2009 bonuses. The need for changes and plausibility of water data for bonusing has been affixed and reviewed by both the cantonal fisheries supervisors and the FJV project management. In addition to the two geometry types polygons for still waters and lines for rivers, the cantonal area is divided into so-called territorial areas. All waters in one area belong to the corresponding area. This administrative division facilitates the tracking of the areas independently of the water data.
