Dataset description

In the summer of 2004, in cooperation with Grün Stadt Zürich (which is assigned to the former **Stadtforstamt**), the City Archives of Zurich worked on a valuable inventory of historical photographs on the Sihlwald and opened it up in terms of content. These are paper prints threatened by decay from the years 1875 to 1962. A selection of images has been digitised. The original images are stored in the Zurich City Archives. The focus of the photographic documents is the care and use of the former Zürcher forest. Further pictures show the processing of the wood in the factory Sihlwald, the construction of the Sihltal Railway, correction work on rivers and streams as well as the forest as a recreation area.
