Dataset description

Masterplan Velo — Zurich invites you to cycle. The Velo Master Plan is a central element of the Urban Transport 2025 programme and serves its objectives at various levels: A higher percentage of bicycles reduces energy consumption, pollutant emissions and noise in total traffic. https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ted/de/index/taz/publikationen_u_broschueren/masterplan_velo.html Please note that this is the planned cycle network of 2012. The Velo Masterplan is currently being revised and replaced by a new Velo strategy. In the context of the new Velo Strategy and the implementation of the Velorouten Initiative, the civil engineer is currently developing a network of preferred cycle routes. This is not finished yet and therefore not public. **Purpose**: Presentation of all main and comfort routes. The existing Velorouten network is supplemented as well as structurally and qualitatively improved. As the backbone of the urban route network, there is a network of fast-to-go, continuous and low-impact main routes for everyday and habitual drivers. These are self-trassed (wheel strips or paths) or lead over car-poor quartier roads. Wide and guided tours are designed for larger traffic volumes and speeds and provide a high level of safety. The main routes are coordinated with regional fast routes that the city plans in cooperation with the canton. As an additional offer, especially for casual riders, a comfort route network is created. Largely separate from motorised traffic, on these “Velote carpets” the entire city area can be relaxed and enjoyable. Selected routes are completely signposted.
