Traffic Measuring Stations

The data obtained with the help of traffic measuring stations form the basis for a wide range of traffic information. They serve the cantonal transport model (KVM-ZH), the noise register based on the Noise Protection Ordinance (LSV) and the Air Pollution Regulation (LRV), as well as internal and external traffic information. Motor vehicle traffic is divided into ten types of vehicles (SWISS10): • Bus (bus) • motorcycle (MR) • passenger car (PW) • passenger car with trailer (PW+) • delivery van (Lief) • van with trailer (Lief+) • delivery van with lift (Lief+) • trucks (LW) • truck (LS) • semi-trailer (SZ) The traffic measuring stations are equipped with consecutive wire loop pairs, which are incorporated into the road surface. At regular intervals, the traffic data stored in the traffic counter is read out for further processing.
