Children in Need and Care

Selected data sets about children in need and care based on two official statistical returns by the Department for Education that are published annually. The first is called "[Statistics: children in need and child protection](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-children-in-need#characteristics-of-children-in-need)". The second is called "[Statistics: looked-after children](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-looked-after-children)". These data sets can be interrogated through a range of tools including the [DFE Local authority information tool](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/local-authority-interactive-tool-lait), a new [experimental DFE tool to support a range of data sets relating to children](https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics), and the Children's Commissioner benchmarking tool called [CHLDRN](https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/chldrn/).
