Dataset description

Explanatory notes on the NELA Data: - Timeframe – Data was collected from December 2016 to November 2017 - Please follow this link to see the Inclusion/Exclusion criteria - http://www.nela.org.uk/NELADocs - For an explanation as to why these indicators were selected and reported on please see the Fourth Patient Report of the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit – http://www.nela.org.uk/reports - Grey rows indicate Hospitals submitting less than ten cases in the Fourth year of data collection - Cells with N/A mean that Data was not available / Not able to calculate - Changes to variables: - "Proportion of patients reviewed by a consultant surgeon and/or a consultant anaesthetist before emergency laparotomy if pre-operative p-possum mortality risk >= 5%" - This standard has been changed for Year 4 of the NELA data collection, it includes reviews both in person and carried out remotely. - "Time of booking" is no longer part of the NELA data collection. The name of the variable in Year 3 "Proportion of included cases where neither time of decision to operate nor time of booking for theatre was submitted" has therefore been renamed in Year 4 to "Proportion of included cases where no time of decision to operate for theatre was submitted". Additionally the variable "Proportion of cases where interval from decision to operate (or time of booking) to arrival in theatre was appropriate to documented operative urgency (for cases with urgency <18 hours)" has been renamed in Year 4 to "Proportion of cases where interval from decision to operate to arrival in theatre was appropriate to documented operative urgency (for cases with urgency <18 hours)"
